Ever since I had my first kretek I loved their flavor and aroma. Soon after discovering clove cigarettes (kretek) I found the Gundang Garam Surya. Theese have been my favorite kretek for about 10 years. These simply surpass the rest in flavor, smell, smoothness, looks, and the crackle sound while smoking. These leave the sweet clove taste on your lips and somewhat numb your mouth, just as cloves should. I always especially liked the white paper used (much like Djarum Super). I recommend these to anyone who likes kreteks.

Wonderful, but not the best kreteks I’ve had. When in Brazil, I had a Gudang Garam Professional which was imported from Paraguay. I know Ciggiesworld sells them, but I wanted to try something different this time around. Reading great reviews, I ordered these. They took about 15 days to arrive (N. America), but were delivered two days after my post office receved them because the “address was incomplete”. When I finally got them, they were wrapped inside a tight cardboard box, some plastic wrap, and layer of bubble wrap; Ciggiesworld took extreme care to make sure none of my packs were crushed. Opening the pack, there is a sweet smeel of sugar and cloves, but not as fruity as the Internationals. The pack is subdivided into sections of eight pieces, each bundle wrapped in a beautiful goldern foil bearing the GG logo. Now for the cigarettes. Long, not too thick, nor too long of a filter. Tightly packed and dense. Oddly enough, there were no clove oil stains, but a sweet smell wafted off the body. Taste: as I said, not too sweet. The paper was sweet enough to make me lick my lips, and the cloves provided a spicy kick to the draw. if you’ve never smoked a kretek before, beware, the kick of nicotine is phenominally strong; you should probably be sitting down. Despite pushing nearly 40 of tar, they are sooth and silky on the throat, presumably from the cloves. I like my kreteks ultrasweet, so these were not my all time favourite, but most certainly one of my top 5 smokes ever. They burn for nearly 18 minutes, so don’t make a habit of lighting these up at work, or your boss will have a fit. 8/10. Thank you Ciggiesworld!
